Attracting and Retaining Youth

   Attracting and retaining youth in our service area is very important to maintaining a healthy economy.  If our youth leave and fail to return to the region we will have a shortage of skilled workers.

Share different strategies for retaining youth or attracting them back to the area.

	Provide them with sustained, meaningful activities wihile they are youth -- supported by a caring adult in a supportive environment so that they will want to return when they are adults. Celebrate their successes and provide them with opportunities for such.
	"Youth engagement is the meaningful participation and sustained involvement of a young person in an activity, with a focus outside of him or herself."

	Thank you for your comment Otonabee99! You make a very good point. By providing youth with these meaningful activities you are connecting them to their community. Also, the supportive environment is very important. Youth do not always know how to become involved in their community. Sometimes they just need to be asked.
